The Federal Executive Council has approved the thirty-nine point one billion naira for the supply of electricity meters to the Electricity Distribution Companies.
This made known by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, BABATUNDE FASHOLA while briefing State House correspondent after the council meeting in Abuja yesterday.
FASHOLA said the approval was granted based on the consideration of a memorandum on a one hundred and nineteen billion naira judgment against the Federal Government, which was inherited by the previous administration.
The Minister said the judgment was entered against the government as a result of acts by officials who varied a presidential approval without seeking further directive, and then awarded a contract on that basis.
He said the disputes arose from a contract to supply three million meters in 2003, which was entered into with a contractor and the defunct National Electricity Power Authority, which later became the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, also now defunct.
